The camping kitchen is one of my favorite spots and activities out in
the open. I do love to eat as much as I like to cook and grill. And all
the crisp air sure does activate my appetite.
Lots of fresh vegetables, rice and pasta along with some fresh fish and seafood are my favorites. Why fresh? Because I always strive to find local, homegrown and fresh instead of processed food. A lot healthier for the body and a fact we should all be aware by now.
In order to keep things organized, a variety of camping kitchen units is available on the market just in case you need one. A wide range of portable models, a few hand and custom made plywood units and a lot of homemade kitchen boxes tailored out to the owners needs. I admit that some of these projects are very neat and practical for any outdoor use.
Preparing easy camping food is not that complicated. All you need is some practical and a few camping food ideas. Visit the local open markets or the fish market, and you'll get some ideas in no time.
And what is the best food to take camping? Just about anything you can think of as long as it is easy and simple to prepare.
There are a few different ways to prepare food out in the nature...
You can buy all your camping cooking equipment in a camper store or any other store and places such as the internet for example. But I'll bet you have some useful equipment already at home. This is a great time to browse through the kitchenware that you keep back home and find out what you can use on your camping trips!
For camping recipes I use the same practical solution that I use in everyday life. I try to be creative and cook whatever I have in stock. Simple as that! A very long time ago I found out, that cooking by the book is useless, because it's impossible to have all the ingredients at the palm of your hand. That's why I improvise a lot with what I have.
Cruising around the Adriatic and Mediterranean sea in my camper van is my favorite leisure time.
Mediterranean food is known world wide to be one of the healthiest diets for your body and soul. And this is where I get my inspiration for camping food ideas.
I check out the local farmers and fisherman and don't forget the open markets when I have a chance to do so. I stop by the road, when I spot the locals selling their products. Just might have to bargain a bit, but the taste of the home made products will make every effort worthwhile.
This is where you'll get your camping food ideas from. Don't forget the spices though, salt, pepper, parsley, basil, garlic, rosemary, thyme, oregano, chilly pepper and curcuma all have strong benefits in your diet and will make your food much more tasty.
Remember that your creativity makes the camping kitchen worthwhile.

If you don't have a camper van or any other type of RV and still wish to keep your kitchen supplies neatly organized, a portable kitchen is the answer to your needs. Now, as I mentioned above, there are two types of portable kitchens.
The first option is a portable unit that you get at any company in the camping and outdoor business. The base for these kitchens is usually an aluminum frame with canvas storage compartments.
Another option is a plywood or plastic box, containing storage compartments, a worktop and the stove. These are mostly homemade projects, however you will find a few enthusiasts selling their products on the internet.
You can check out some of the YouTube videos, to get a basic idea of how these portable boxes are made. It's quite an easy project if you have some basic carpenter skills, and that way you can build one that exactly matches your needs.
The latter option makes a great companion for your SUV, truck or a basic van that's used for camping only occasionally. Check out this custom made kitchens.
When you meet new friends down the road, you'll probably end up at a meal sooner or later. Most campers usually have something to pitch in, or have an idea of where to get some local goodies.
So relax, head out to the great outdoors even for just a couple of nights or so, take a long walk in the woods or a run on the beach with your dog. Take your time out and read a book or just lay down under the sun. And do forget about your mobile phones, computers and TV-sets for a while. Can you do it?
And when the time is right, get your camping kitchen running, chill the wine and just slowly enjoy your life. You don't need a whole lot to enjoy your friends and family.
