Teardrop Camper Kits

Teardrop camper kits are a great alternative if you don't want to go through the time consuming hassle and frustration of a homemade project and still wish to do some of the work on your own.

Only a few small companies that build teardrop campers will provide the "kit package". This allows you to finish up and personalize your teardrop and even save some money doing it.

And why would you want to do this?

A teardrop might seem like a simple and quite a primitive concept at first glance, but a lot of people that tried a homemade teardrop camper project found out that building one is just not as easy as it seems to be.Why?

Unlike building my homemade camper van, where I only had to furnish the inside of an existing van, a teardrop has to be build from the ground up and from scratch.

Professional manufacturers often have previous skills in the field, tools such as CNC cutters, templates, lots of practice and enough time to do the job. Not to mention a proper place to do all the work that needs to be done.

Just imagine cutting out all the wood and aluminum with a jigsaw! It can be done of course, but personally I would let the pro's do some  work.

Even the quality materials have been carefully picked out and tested through the years. Many of the bits and pieces used are marine grade quality that will last a lifetime.

Most of us don't have all the above. And that's why some manufacturers can often meet you "half way "to say so and even help you out with the rest of your project.

So what do you get in teardrop camper kits?

Well that will mostly depend upon the agreement between you and the manufacturer, but in general these parts are some of the basics on the list:

  • CNC or dado  precision cut plywood and aluminum body parts
  • Pre-drilled  body parts for easy assembly
  • Cut outs for options like sinks, roof vents, batteries etc.
  • Aluminum moldings, trims, windows and other hardware
  • Stainless steel components
  • Technical support during construction
  • Detailed plans
  • Trailer frame

Note that not all the parts above will be provided by all the manufacturers. You really have to contact them in person and see what they have to offer.

Constructing teardrop camper kits usually requires basic and sometimes advanced woodworking skills, and a well equipped shop or garage.

Having some of these parts immediately solves the design and building problems. Depending on the options that you will discuss with your preferred manufacturer, you will now be able to finish of and customize  your teardrop camper all by yourself and just the way you like it.
