Van is a 2004 Astro AWD van with G80 rear locker on BFG/TA

I call it my "mobile hotel room", it is NOT an RV in my opinion. It's simply a van that can handle some offroad duty and is still comfortable enough for one to sleep in. I do a lot of photography and I find the AWD Astro to be the perfect road trip vehicle. Only way it would be better would if it had a Cummins 4BT motor.

16 mpg would be a good average for the Astro. They are not the most fuel efficient but they are so cheap, it leaves some room to buy gas. They do have a big fuel tank (25 or so useable gallons) and have very good range. If you look for one with G80 option (on the door tag) that has rear locker. With the rear locker and one front wheel pulling they are quite capable off the pavement.

I did a roadtrip in 32 states from march to june 2014
we have an eurovan westfalia

we think of going back but with a more apropriate
vehicle ....

astro or savana AWD , because we could go ou offroad ....
my main concern is fuel consumption

with my converted 1.9 TDI I got 30 mpg ....
but the GM AWD vans seems to get 16 mpg
am I right ?
thanks

Dan

I made a few changes to the van. I added some platforms for the bed, removed the back seat, threw away the platforms and got a cot. I really like the simplicity of the van and a simple cot and the folding cot was more comfortable.

Made provisions to sleep two.
